Poland develops new school safety guidelines and emergency alert app

The Polish Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Interior and Administration are finalizing unified guidelines for schools to manage emergency situations and evacuations. The development of these protocols follows inconsistent responses from educational institutions during air threat alarms in the Lubelskie and Podkarpackie regions on September 17.

In addition to standardized school procedures, the Ministry of Interior and Administration, in collaboration with the Government Security Centre and the State Fire Service, is developing a new mobile warning application. Expected to be ready by the end of 2026, the app will initially target eastern provinces bordering Ukraine. The technology is designed to issue critical notifications that emit loud sounds and vibrations even if a smartphone is set to silent or discrete mode. This digital initiative coincides with a broader modernization of Poland's traditional siren network, transitioning toward digital infrastructure.
