Poland discusses school security measures amid disinformation and threats

Polish schools are facing dual challenges regarding student safety: a wave of disinformation and rising security concerns. Social media campaigns have been spreading false claims that new emergency procedures are intended to allow the removal of children from school premises without parental consent. These disinformation efforts aim to incite fear and encourage parents to submit special declarations to protect their children during drills or evacuations.

Simultaneously, authorities are responding to social media trends that encourage vandalism and attacks on educational facilities. In response, police patrols have been deployed in schools, particularly in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, to conduct preventive activities and engage with students and staff. National security services have also conducted widespread inspections of hundreds of homes and schools following reports of criminal threats and disturbing online content. These incidents have reignited a public debate regarding the implementation of more intensive security measures, such as metal detectors, within school buildings.
