Poland: DNA genealogy leads to arrest in Gdynia murder case
Prosecutors have revealed new details regarding the investigation into the murder of 13-year-old Iza in Gdynia. The breakthrough in the case was achieved through the use of advanced genetic genealogy and DNA technology.
Dr. Michał Gabriel-Węglowski explained that investigators were able to generate a suspected perpetrator's likeness based on DNA profiles. This process, which involves using commercial DNA databases to find relatives, allowed authorities to identify the suspect, identified as Michał S.
To avoid traumatizing the suspect's family, police conducted surveillance to monitor his daily routine, eventually arresting him outside his home rather than during a forceful early-morning raid. The investigation was supported by the X Archive (Archiwum X) police unit from the Gdańsk command.
