Poland Education Minister addresses school safety and mental health
Polish Minister of Education Barbara Nowacka has issued an appeal to teachers following a series of school inspections and the detention of teenagers. Nowacka noted that recent police presence in schools helped calm the atmosphere following online confusion. She urged educators to discuss crisis situations, mental health, and the importance of reporting concerning behavior to trusted adults or authorities with their students and parents.
The Ministry of Education plans to provide schools with materials regarding how to conduct lessons on the dangers of imitation behavior among youth. Additionally, support is being made available through the Justice Fund for students, parents, and teaching staff who are victims of crime, witnesses, or those struggling with trauma.
Reports indicate that approximately 50 schools cancelled classes on Friday, October 9, amid the ongoing situation. Authorities have reminded those in psychological crisis that they can contact the helpline at 116 111.
