Global drought and El Niño trigger water and agricultural crises

A widespread drought driven by high temperatures and the El Niño phenomenon is causing significant environmental and economic disruptions across multiple continents. In Europe, countries including Poland, Germany, France, and Hungary are facing severe water shortages and heatwaves. In Poland, the Vistula River has reached record low levels, and agricultural sectors are struggling; corn crops in Lower Silesia and Opole are drying up prematurely, and vegetable and fruit yields have declined, leading to increased price volatility for consumers.

In North America, the western United States is experiencing significant drought, impacting key reservoirs like Lake Mead and Lake Powell. Meanwhile, parts of Africa, Asia, and South America are also facing critical water scarcity and heat anomalies. These conditions are straining agricultural production, affecting river navigation, and threatening local water resources globally.
