Poland emergency siren tests reveal technical failures
Recent nationwide emergency exercises in Poland, known as ALARM-26, have revealed significant technical failures in warning systems. In the Lubelskie Voivodeship, approximately two-thirds of the sirens functioned correctly, leaving roughly one-third inoperable. The situation was particularly critical in the Chełm district, where several municipalities lacked any functioning air raid sirens.
Issues identified during the tests included sirens failing to activate, signals lasting for shorter durations than required, and display malfunctions in cities like Zamość. These failures are of particular concern following a Russian missile strike in the Biłgoraj district on July 30, where sirens were not activated.
In a separate phase of testing, the Mazowieckie Voivodeship is scheduled to conduct Syrena-26 exercises from October 12 to October 16. These drills will involve the activation of sirens emitting a continuous sound for one minute to verify the functionality of the warning systems and internal response procedures.
