Poland: Energy sector protests and political disputes over fuel prices

Political tensions and labor unrest are rising in Poland regarding the energy sector and fuel costs. In Warsaw, union members from NSZZ Solidarność representing the Inowrocław salt mines protested at the Orlen headquarters. They are demanding the protection of the salt works and calling for Orlen to acquire Qemetica to strengthen the salt and storage complex. The protest included high-profile figures such as former Orlen head Daniel Obajtek and MP Przemysław Czarnek.

Simultaneously, Law and Justice (PiS) politicians in Włocławek have criticized the current government over high fuel prices. Party members, including Jarosław Chmielewski and Joanna Borowiak, argued that current prices do not reflect the drop in global oil costs. They proposed reducing VAT from 24 to 8 percent and lowering excise duties to provide relief to citizens, while also criticizing Orlen for its dividend payouts.

In a separate incident in Radziejów, a significant fire broke out at the District Headquarters of the State Fire Service. The blaze, which originated near chimney connections for generator exhaust, spread to the building's facade and roof. While no injuries were reported and firefighting equipment remained undamaged, the building suffered substantial damage to its office, roof, and common areas. A special commission has been established to investigate the cause.
