Poland labor market: Wages grow slower and employment declines
Recent data from Statistics Poland (GUS) indicates a slowdown in the Polish labor market. In August 2026, the average gross monthly wage in the enterprise sector was 9,259.54 PLN. While this represents a 5.6% increase compared to the same period in 2025, it marks a 2.6% decrease from July 2026. Analysts attribute this monthly decline to a lower volume of additional payments, such as quarterly and annual bonuses, jubilee awards, and retirement severance pay, rather than a reduction in base salaries.
Simultaneously, employment levels in the enterprise sector have seen a decline. Average employment fell by 0.2% compared to the previous month and 0.8% compared to the same month last year, totaling approximately 6.37 million positions.
Additionally, workplace accident statistics for the first half of 2026 show a worsening trend. There were 33,081 reported injuries, a 7.9% increase from the first half of 2025. The accident rate rose from 2.23 to 2.41 per 1,000 workers.
