Poland: Environmental regulations and wildlife activity increase in autumn

As the contractual bird nesting period ends on October 15, tree removal for investment projects in Poland may begin. However, the General Directorate for Environmental Protection emphasizes that this does not grant full freedom to cut trees. Year-round prohibitions remain in place regarding the destruction of habitats, nests, and shelters for protected species. Property owners and investors are advised to inspect trees for protected animals, plants, fungi, or lichens, potentially seeking assistance from zoologists or botanists to avoid legal issues.

Simultaneously, increased wildlife activity during the autumn mating seasons—including the red deer rut and moose rut—is leading to a higher risk of animal collisions on roads. Foresters are urging drivers to exercise caution, particularly at dawn and dusk, as animals move more frequently between feeding and breeding grounds. The risk of moose-related accidents is notably higher during September and October.
