Poland expands e‑TOLL exemption for passenger vehicles under 3.5 ton

A law amendment signed by the Polish president on 22 July and published in the Journal of Laws will exempt passenger cars, motorcycles and vehicle combinations with a total weight below 3.5 ton from paying e‑TOLL charges on national roads. The exemption takes effect 60 days after the law’s announcement, on 21 September, and applies to the expanded e‑TOLL network of 6,869 km that will be in place from 1 February 2026.

Vehicles exceeding the 3.5 ton threshold, including heavy trucks and trailers, will continue to be charged. Drivers who have accumulated balances on e‑TOLL accounts for vehicles now exempt can request refunds within six months of the rule’s entry into force; otherwise the funds will be transferred to the National Treasury. The changes also reinforce existing reporting obligations for heavy‑vehicle operators under the e‑TOLL, SENT GEO and digital tachograph systems, with penalties for non‑compliance.

The reforms aim to reduce administrative burdens for private motorists and tourists, aligning toll policy with vehicle weight classifications while maintaining revenue collection from commercial transport.
