Poland expands free mobile mammography program to Silesian towns

Poland’s National Health Fund (NFZ) is funding a summer campaign of free mammography screenings for women aged 45‑74. The mobile units, operated by Geneva Trust Polska, travel across the country to bring the service closer to residents, aiming to increase early‑stage breast‑cancer detection, which can cut mortality by 25‑30 %.

In the Silesian Voivodeship, a detailed schedule has been released for late July 2026. From 27 July to 31 July the mammobuses will visit towns such as Mnich (Chybie), Skoczów, Jastrzębie‑Zdrój, Łodygowice, Cieszyn, Goczałkowice‑Zdrój, Czechowice‑Dziedzice, Chełm Śląski, Pawłowice, Pszczyna, Lędziny and Mikołów. Each visit offers a five‑minute, no‑referral exam, with results returned within a few working days.

Organisers stress that only about one‑third of eligible women currently use the free service, despite its proven benefits. “Mammografia to bezpieczne badanie, dla większości kobiet bezbolesne,” said Andrzej Stencel, president of Geneva Trust Polska. The campaign also highlights the broader impact of breast cancer on mental health, employment and out‑of‑pocket costs, urging women to prioritize regular screening.
