Poland expands siren network along eastern border
Poland is strengthening its civil defense measures along its eastern border by installing more than 1,000 automated sirens. Polish Minister of Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński announced the expansion during a briefing in Lublin.
The decision follows an increase in Russian attacks targeting infrastructure near the Polish-Ukrainian border. Kierwiński noted that Russian tactics have shifted, with strike drones and missiles increasingly targeting border crossing points and other critical infrastructure.
At the beginning of 2024, the region had approximately 30 functional remote-activated sirens; that number has since grown to nearly 350. The reinforcement of defensive measures comes after recent incidents, including a Russian attack on September 13 that damaged a fuel station near the Yahodyn border crossing in Volyn and damaged a locomotive near the Polish border.
