Poland expands support for legal guardians and caregivers of disabled seniors

The Municipal Social Assistance Center in Gdańsk is calling on volunteers to serve as legal guardians or curators for adults who are fully or partially incapacitated because of advanced age, serious illness or disability. Candidates must be Polish citizens, legally competent, without a criminal record and able to fulfill the duties, which include protecting personal safety, managing assets and representing the ward in legal matters. The court decides on each appointment and may grant a remuneration funded from the protected person’s estate or public sources.

In Warsaw’s Wola district, the "Blisko – Bliskich – Wola 2026" project offers free consultations for caregivers of seniors with dementia, Alzheimer’s or other age‑related conditions. Services include one‑off visits by a psychogerontologist (in‑person or by phone), a home nursing session covering safe toileting, repositioning and pressure‑ulcer prevention, and legal advice from a specialist lawyer. The program, run by the Association Syntonia with district funding, aims to improve the well‑being of both care recipients and their caregivers.
