Poland eyes higher dog tax and sees effective corporate tax burden rise

Poland's Central Statistical Office (GUS) released the consumer price index for the first half of 2026, indicating a 2.7% rise in maximum local tax rates. Based on this, the maximum annual fee for a dog could increase from 186.29 zł to 191.32 zł in 2027, though the exact amount will depend on decisions by individual municipalities. Fewer local authorities are collecting the dog tax, and rates can vary widely across the country.

A Grant Thornton study of the largest listed Polish groups found that their average effective corporate tax rate jumped to 33% in 2024, significantly above the statutory 19% corporate income tax. The increase reflects nondeductible expenses, loss‑carry‑forward limits, sectoral levies and other adjustments, while total pre‑tax profit of the studied firms fell to 90.9 billion zł.
