Poland faces challenges in disability rights and worker health

Recent reports in Poland highlight significant social and health challenges facing the population. A study conducted by the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) and the Polish Forum of Persons with Disabilities (PFON) indicates that individuals with disabilities are frequently treated as social welfare beneficiaries rather than full citizens. This mindset is cited as a barrier to the development of supported housing, which aims to provide independent living options. The national social services strategy targets the creation of 7,000 such apartments by 2030.

Separately, the LongLife report on health gaps among Polish workers reveals that only 53 percent of employees undergo preventive medical examinations at least once a year, while 10 percent do not undergo any regular testing. Disparities in screening rates are linked to education levels and financial barriers. Financial wellness concerns play a role, as many workers prioritize daily expenses over the costs of private medical screenings. While private healthcare is a common employee benefit, many workers still face out-of-pocket costs or lack individualized screening plans.
