Poland faces early respiratory infection season and healthcare access challenges

The infectious disease season has arrived earlier than usual in Poland, with medical professionals reporting an increase in patients suffering from upper and lower respiratory tract infections. Doctors at the Powiatowe Centrum Usług Medycznych in Kielce note rising cases of influenza, RSV, and COVID-19, confirmed through combo testing.

Medical experts emphasize that October remains an effective time for vaccination to build immunity before the peak of the season. Free flu vaccines are available for children under 18, seniors, and pregnant women.

Parallel to the rise in infections, concerns have emerged regarding access to primary healthcare. Parents have reported difficulties securing timely appointments for sick children at local clinics, sometimes being forced to seek emergency hospital care due to a lack of available slots in primary care facilities, despite legal regulations guaranteeing medical visits when health conditions require it.
