Poland faces migration policy tensions amid labor demands
Poland is facing growing tension regarding its migration policy as the influx of foreign nationals begins to outpace the state's capacity for control and absorption. Challenges are evident in the service sector, where inspections have revealed illegal stays and fraudulent documentation, and in the education system, which currently hosts approximately 246,000 foreign students across 68 percent of schools.
While administrative and educational institutions struggle with assimilation and security concerns, large businesses are advocating for the liberalization of migration procedures to secure more labor. A proposed project by the Ministry of Interior and Administration introduces a concept of ‘silent consent,’ which would involve the automatic approval of temporary residence applications if a voivode fails to resolve a case within a specified timeframe. This measure aims to simplify legalization procedures and mitigate the effects of administrative delays, though critics argue it may further reduce state control over immigration.
