Poland faces MyDr data breach and identity verification deadlines
A major data breach at the MyDr medical system has potentially compromised the personal and health information of 18.8 million people and affected over 12,000 medical facilities. The Ministry of Digital Affairs reported that the unauthorized access involved historical data up to April 2024. Stolen information may include names, PESEL numbers, phone numbers, email addresses, and sensitive health data such as medical visit notes and prescription details. While the breach is confirmed, authorities have not yet verified if the data has been made public. An investigation was launched on August 12 by the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime.
Separately, the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) has issued a deadline for Ukrainian citizens holding PESEL UKR status to confirm their identity. Those who fail to provide valid travel documents to a municipal office by August 31 will lose their UKR status on September 1. This change will result in the loss of temporary protection benefits, including the 800+ child benefit, and will require a new legal basis for remaining in Poland.
