Poland faces surge in heating costs as pellet prices top 2,000 zł per ton

Pellet prices in Poland have risen sharply, with the average cost of premium A1 pellets climbing from about 1,784 zł per tonne in June to over 2,000 zł in July and reaching as much as 2,500 zł in some offers. The increase is driven by high demand after a harsh winter depleted stocks, higher production costs, limited supply of wood chips, and growing use of pellet boilers supported by the "Clean Air" programme.

At the same time, residents of Kraków’s historic Nowa Huta district report record heating bills, with some paying up to 871 zł per month for central heating. High tariffs, lack of heat‑distribution upgrades due to heritage protection, and the loss of protective mechanisms have pushed costs higher, prompting many households to purchase fuel early and consider tax relief for certified pellets.
