Poland faces technical issues and equipment choices for K2 tanks

Poland is navigating technical challenges and procurement decisions regarding its fleet of South Korean K2 tanks. Reports indicate that approximately 30 K2GF tanks have been temporarily taken out of service due to various mechanical issues, including engine failures and overheating. The Polish Ministry of National Defence has responded by stating that such maintenance requirements are standard for heavy military equipment and are necessary to ensure technical readiness. Repairs are being managed by the South Korean manufacturer.

In a separate development regarding the upcoming K2PL variant, the Polish military has decided to integrate Norwegian RWS4 Protector remote weapon stations. While the decision has drawn domestic criticism due to the availability of similar Polish-made systems, officials note that the Norwegian modules are proven NATO-standard equipment with a guaranteed delivery schedule starting in spring 2027. This timeline is intended to align with the commencement of K2PL production in 2028, addressing concerns regarding the domestic industry's ability to meet rapid delivery requirements.
