Poland Forest Guard launches ‘Stroisz 2026’ campaign

The Polish Forest Guard has launched the ‘Stroisz 2026’ operation, running from October 19 to October 31, to combat the illegal harvesting of coniferous branches used for seasonal decorations. The campaign targets the unauthorized collection of fir and spruce branches, which are in high demand for wreaths and arrangements ahead of All Saints' Day.

Authorities are conducting inspections in forests, marketplaces, and retail points to verify the legal origin of forest products. To enhance effectiveness, officers are utilizing advanced technology, including drones, camera traps, and video monitoring. The operation involves cooperation between the Forest Guard, police, and various forest districts, such as Tomaszów and Mircze.

Łukasz Przypaśniak, Chief Inspector of the Forest Guard, emphasized that even small-scale illegal harvesting can cause significant damage to forest ecosystems and tree health. Officials urge consumers to purchase decorations from legal sources, such as specialized plantations or documented forest maintenance activities, to ensure environmental protection.
