Poland fuel prices rise as CPN relief program expires

The Polish government's 'Ceny Paliwa Niżej' (CPN) program, which provided fuel relief through reduced VAT and price caps, expired on August 31, 2026. As of September 1, the VAT rate on gasoline and diesel has returned from 8 percent to the standard 23 percent, and the Ministry of Energy has ceased setting maximum retail prices.

Market analysts from Reflex and e-petrol.pl predict significant retail price increases, with estimates suggesting gasoline and diesel could rise by 60 to 90 groszy per liter, though some reports indicate even higher jumps of up to one PLN per liter in certain regions. Specifically, e-petrol.pl forecasts Pb95 gasoline prices between 7.38 and 7.51 PLN per liter and diesel between 8.19 and 8.33 PLN per liter.

The conclusion of the program led to widespread consumer activity, with long queues reported at gas stations in cities such as Zakopane, Łódź, Kutno, and Poznań as drivers attempted to refuel before the price hike. The total cost of the CPN program to date is estimated at approximately 4.7 billion PLN, with the final August phase costing the state budget roughly 495 million PLN.
