Poland: Gas cylinder restrictions in multi-family buildings
Residents of multi-family buildings in Poland are being reminded of strict safety regulations regarding the use of liquid gas cylinders, such as propane-butane. Housing cooperatives, including Zakopiańska Spółdzielnia Mieszkaniowa, have begun issuing notices to residents to ensure compliance with safety standards.
According to technical regulations, the use of liquid gas cylinders is prohibited in buildings with more than four above-ground stories. This restriction applies to the entire building regardless of which floor a specific apartment is located on. Additionally, regulations prohibit the simultaneous use of both liquid gas from cylinders and piped natural gas within the same building.
These measures are intended to mitigate the risk of explosions or fires, as propane-butane is denser than air and can accumulate in low-lying areas like basements or floors in the event of a leak. In buildings where gas is not permitted, residents must rely exclusively on electric appliances, such as induction hobs or electric ovens. Failure to comply may result in civil or criminal liability.
