Poland heat wave prompts animal safety measures

Municipalities across Poland are issuing warnings as a heat wave raises temperatures to dangerous levels for pets and stray animals. The Gmina Hyżne urges residents to provide fresh water, shade and cool resting places for animals, avoid leaving pets in vehicles and limit outdoor walks to early morning or late evening.

In Bydgoszcz, the city animal shelter has cancelled all scheduled dog walks through the end of the week and is installing water‑curtain cooling stations at multiple public sites, including the Island Mill, several roundabouts and street corners. The provincial governor has called for heightened caution for children, seniors and animals, advising regular hydration and reduced activity during the hottest hours. Authorities stress that overheating can cause heat‑stroke, dehydration and burns from hot pavement.
