Poland energy sector faces rising costs and infrastructure updates

Poland is preparing for the upcoming heating season amid rising energy costs and infrastructure changes. Coal prices have surged, with some locations exceeding 2,000 PLN per ton, while pellet costs have seen significant increases. Additionally, the cost of CO2 emissions has risen to over 87 euros per ton.

Energy providers, including PGE Dystrybucja and Tauron, have announced widespread modernization works that will result in temporary electricity outages across several regions, including Podkarpackie, Małopolska, and parts of the Łódź Voivodeship.

New regulations are also taking effect. By January 1, 2027, building managers must replace old heat meters with remote-reading devices. Furthermore, RTV license fees are scheduled to increase in 2027. On the environmental front, EU directives are phasing out financial incentives for new standalone fossil fuel boilers, effective January 1, 2025.
