Poland proposes emergency aid for farmers facing rising fuel and fertilizer costs
The Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has proposed emergency financial aid for farmers to mitigate rising costs of fertilizer and diesel fuel caused by the Middle East crisis that began in February 2026.
Under the proposed regulation, farmers can receive a total diesel subsidy of up to 2 PLN per liter. This includes a 0.52 PLN per liter contribution from EU funds, which will function alongside the existing national excise tax refund of 1.48 PLN per liter. The diesel subsidy applies to fuel purchased between March 1 and August 31, 2026.
For fertilizers, the aid aims to refund 100% of the price difference between the invoice and the average price from the last quarter of 2025. This support is capped at 500 PLN per hectare for up to 300 hectares, covering purchases made between March 1 and August 15, 2026.
Additionally, the Ministry plans to launch a low-interest working capital loan in the fourth quarter of 2026. These loans, with a maximum amount of 200,000 PLN per borrower and a repayment period of up to three years, will support essential production costs such as seeds, feed, and energy. The program will include interest rate subsidies, with rates not exceeding 2% for young farmers and 3% for others during the first two years.
