Poland highlighted as key strategic hub on new European security map

A newly released map of Europe’s most critical strategic points places Poland at the centre of NATO’s eastern flank. The analysis stresses the importance of the Suwałki Gap – the sole land corridor linking the Baltic states with the rest of the alliance – which lies between Russia’s Kaliningrad enclave and Belarus. Experts warn that a Russian‑Belarusian push could cut off Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, undermining NATO cohesion. The map also marks Kaliningrad, Gotland, the Danish Straits and other choke points as potential flash‑points in the wider Ukraine war context. Professor Dariusz Kozerawski of Jagiellonian University and analyst Jakub Graca of the Institute for New Europe stress that while Russia currently lacks the capacity for a two‑front offensive, the proximity of these sites to Poland makes the country a focal point for European security planning.
