Poland holds ceremonies to honor wartime victims and veterans

Various commemorative ceremonies were held in Poland to honor historical figures and victims of war.

In Trawniki, ceremonies marked the 82nd anniversary of a battle in which Home Army (Armia Krajowa) soldiers fell in September 1944. The event included a Holy Mass and the unveiling of two memorial plaques: one dedicated to General Antoni Hedda ‘Szary’ and another to the Home Army soldiers. Local officials, representatives of the World Association of Home Army Soldiers, and community members participated in the tribute.

In Mysłowice, authorities and families gathered to remember six Silesian Uprising veterans who were murdered by German forces near the Przemsza River on September 5, 1939. The veterans—Paweł Spyra, Paweł Janota, Alojzy Myszor, Wojciech Musioł, Augustyn Sekuła, and Wilhelm Szumilas—were executed during the early days of World War II. An obelisk near Wysoki Brzeg serves as a memorial to their fate, recently renovated through cooperation between the Mysłowice City Office and the Institute of National Remembrance.
