Poland holds July commemorations for 1946 Kielce tragedy and Silesian insurgent Józef Dreyza

On July 3 2026 a ceremony took place at the Jewish cemetery in Kielce, Poland, marking the victims of the July 4 1946 tragedy. Attended by local officials and community members, the event featured a tribute at the Menorah monument.

Two days later, on July 6 2026, the Institute of National Remembrance in Katowice and the Siemianowice Śląskie city office organized a memorial at the parish cemetery on Michałkowicka Street. The ceremony honored Józef Dreyza (1863‑1951), a Silesian insurgent, on the occasion of his birthday and the 105th anniversary of the end of the Third Silesian Uprising (July 5). Dreyza’s contributions as a bank president, organizer of the Sokół gymnastic society, and participant in the 1921 plebiscite were highlighted.
