Narodowe Czytanie celebrates Adam Mickiewicz’s ‘Dziady’ across Poland
The 15th edition of Narodowe Czytanie (National Reading) is taking place across Poland and in over 40 countries, focusing on Adam Mickiewicz’s classic drama, ‘Dziady’. The initiative, launched by the President of Poland, aims to promote Polish literature and reading through communal recitation.
Events are being held in diverse locations, including schools, libraries, churches, and public squares. In Warsaw, the reading is centered around Adam Mickiewicz Square, while in Sandomierz, it takes place within the Romanesque Church of St. James. Other regional activities include theatrical performances in Szczecin, youth-led reinterpretations in Białołęka, and specialized exhibitions of Mickiewicz’s original manuscripts at the Catholic University of Lublin.
The program features various formats, such as literary buses in Lublin, outdoor exhibitions of theatrical history, and historical reconstructions of ancient rites. Local authorities, educators, and community members are participating in the readings to celebrate the cultural significance of the work.
