Poland implements new compensation measures for farmers

The Polish Sejm has passed an amendment to the nature protection act to provide compensation for farmers and fishers for damages caused by various bird species. The National Support Centre for Agriculture (KOWR) will be responsible for inspecting damage, estimating losses, and processing payments. The list of protected species includes 20 types, such as cranes, geese, swans, and corvids for crop damage, as well as cormorants and herons for damages to fish ponds.

Separately, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is preparing a regulation to provide 100 percent compensation for farmers who have not received payment for products due to a contractor's insolvency. These payments will be drawn from the Agricultural Protection Fund. The support is available to individual producers and authorized producer groups who sell to entities involved in collection, storage, or processing, provided the non-payment is documented by VAT invoices.
