Poland implements new school and kindergarten nutrition rules
New nutritional regulations for schools and kindergartens in Poland took effect on September 1, 2026. The Ministry of Health's guidelines mandate specific dietary components in weekly menus to promote health and align with planetary diet principles.
Key requirements include providing at least one portion of fish, one plant-based legume meal without animal products, and two portions of fresh meat per week. Highly processed meats, such as sausage, are no longer permitted as primary protein sources. Additionally, schools must provide vegetarian alternatives for any meal containing meat or fish, and a maximum of two fried dishes are allowed between Monday and Friday.
Vegetables or fruits must be included in every meal, with a preference for vegetables. The regulations also specify the use of refined olive oil or rapeseed oil for frying and require at least two vegetable-based soups per week.
