Poland implements QR code system to track household waste sorting
Some Polish municipalities are adopting a new waste management system to prevent entire apartment buildings from being penalized for the incorrect sorting of trash by a single resident. The system, known as SISO and developed by T-Master, utilizes individual QR codes assigned to specific households.
Under this method, residents attach a unique QR code to their waste bags. When the code is scanned, the container lid opens, and the waste is weighed, with the data linked directly to the household account. To ensure compliance, collection employees inspect the contents of the bags, take photographs of any errors, and upload the results via an application. This creates a digital record that allows municipalities and property managers to identify specific households responsible for improper sorting, enabling targeted education rather than collective fines.
