Poland increases border readiness following Russian drone attacks on Ukraine

Poland has placed six border crossings in the Lubelskie and Podkarpackie voivodeships on high alert following a massive Russian drone attack on western Ukraine. On the night of September 22-23, Russia deployed 161 drones against Ukrainian targets, prompting Polish authorities to activate preventive security measures.

The Polish military has placed its air defense systems and radar reconnaissance on high alert. While no violation of Polish airspace has been reported, the Operational Command of the Armed Forces is monitoring the situation to ensure immediate response capabilities. Residents in the Lubelskie region received alerts from the Government Centre for Security (RCB) regarding the situation and the operation of Polish aircraft in national airspace.

To ensure public safety, officials have prepared 23 shelters in the border region and are working to establish additional ones. Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński and Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz visited the Dorohusk border crossing to oversee these operations. The government emphasized that border crossings are classified as critical infrastructure, facilitating a rapid response to potential threats.
