Poland initiates design for new flood protection reservoirs

New infrastructure projects are underway in Poland to enhance flood protection and water retention. In the Opole region, contracts worth over 15.5 million PLN have been signed to begin the design phase for two reservoirs: Ścinawa and Mora. The Ścinawa reservoir, located near Piorunkowice, aims to protect municipalities including Korfantów, Prudnik, Niemodlin, Tułowice, and Lewin Brzeski. The Mora reservoir, planned near Iława and Biskupowo, will serve the Nysa and Głuchołazy areas. Designers have 36 months to complete documentation and obtain necessary administrative decisions.

In Lower Silesia, plans are also moving forward for the Maleszów retention reservoir on the Mała Ślęza river in the Kondratowice municipality. This facility is expected to have a capacity of 1.3 million cubic meters. It is designed to protect the Mała Ślęza and Żelowicka Woda valleys from flooding while providing water for agricultural use during droughts. The Regional Water Management Authority in Wrocław has opened a tender for the project documentation, with a deadline for submitting offers set for October 21, 2026.
