Poland intensifies heating season inspections to prevent illegal waste burning

Authorities in Poland are intensifying inspections of heating devices and fuel usage as the heating season begins. In the Żerków municipality, officials have scheduled 108 inspections across 12 locations for 2026 to ensure compliance with air protection regulations and regional anti-smog resolutions.

Inspectors are authorized to verify heating device parameters, fuel types, and Ecodesign compliance. They may also examine fuel moisture levels, ash content, and documentation related to the Central Register of Emissions from Buildings (CEEB). In cases of suspected illegal waste burning, officials may take ash or fuel samples and use photographic documentation.

Burning prohibited materials—such as plastic, tires, treated wood, or household waste—is illegal due to the release of harmful chemicals. Violators face significant penalties, including fines of up to 5,000 PLN or potential arrest under the Code of Petty Offences.
