Poland introduces senior cards for oil‑recycling machines

Polish recycling program Olejomat has replaced the smartphone app with a dedicated senior card, allowing older citizens to deposit used cooking oil without a phone. The plastic card contains two unique codes – one to obtain an empty collection bottle and another to return the filled container – and works like a payment card issued by local municipalities. Around 118 Olejomat units are operating nationwide, rewarding users with points that can be exchanged for ecological prizes. The change aims to include digitally‑excluded groups and prevent the illegal disposal of oil into sewers, which can cause blockages and damage infrastructure. "Karty seniora są odpowiedzią na potrzeby zgłaszane zarówno przez mieszkańców, jak i samorządy współpracujące z projektem Olejomaty," said project initiator Małgorzata Rdest.
