Poland introduces senior care benefit and highlights nursing home options

The Polish government is moving forward with a new non‑cash senior benefit, the "Bon senioralny," which will be open for applications after the summer holidays. The program targets citizens aged 65 and over, as well as eligible residents of the EU, EEA, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, and provides services funded by the state rather than cash payments. Funding of 4.5 billion złoty is allocated for 2026‑2035, with the first year receiving 1 billion złoty and annual spending stabilising at 500 million złoty from 2028.

At the same time, experts advise families on when to consider placing an elderly relative in a modern nursing home. Indicators such as declining independence, chronic illnesses, dementia, or social isolation suggest the need for 24‑hour care. Contemporary facilities offer professional medical supervision, occupational therapy, rehabilitation, and social activities designed to maintain physical and mental well‑being, relieving families of constant caregiving responsibilities.
