Poland introduces specialized waste containers at cemeteries

Polish municipalities are introducing specialized red containers at cemeteries to facilitate the separate collection of electronic waste, specifically batteries and components from LED and solar-powered grave lanterns. This initiative aims to prevent hazardous substances from contaminating soil and water and to mitigate fire risks associated with damaged lithium cells.

These new disposal systems have already been implemented in cities such as Gliwice, Legnica, Nowa Sól, and Otyń. Local authorities are also reorganizing general waste management; for example, in Wrocław, bio-waste and mixed waste containers remain along walkways, while glass and plastic bins have been moved closer to main entrances. Visitors are warned that improper disposal of electronic waste can result in fines of up to 5,000 PLN.
