Poland issues heat safety guidance for animals and motorists
During a heatwave in Idzikowice, a resident reported a dog suffering from dehydration and heat stress. Police responded quickly, providing water and shelter before transporting the animal to a local shelter. The incident underscores warnings against leaving pets in closed vehicles, where interior temperatures can become fatal within minutes.
Laurent Pignot, press officer for the Touring Club Suisse (TCS), advised drivers to inspect coolant levels, engine oil, brake fluid and battery condition before summer trips. He highlighted the risk of overheating engines, cracked hoses and tire pressure increases in high temperatures, and warned that leaving children or pets in parked cars can rapidly reach 50‑80 °C, posing severe health dangers. Proper vehicle checks and adherence to manufacturer tire pressure specifications can prevent breakdowns and accidents.
