Poland issues official safety guide for 72-hour emergency preparedness
The Polish government has released an official “Safety Guide” advising citizens to prepare for at least 72 hours of self-sufficiency in the event of crises such as floods, fires, power outages, or cyberattacks. The guide emphasizes that these measures are voluntary and informational rather than mandatory.
Key recommendations include maintaining a three-day supply of essential items. For water, the guide specifies a minimum of 3 liters per person per day, meaning a family of four should have at least 36 liters. Families are also advised to stock ready-to-eat food, cash in various denominations, flashlights, batteries, radios, and power banks.
Regarding medical needs, the government stresses the importance of a home first-aid kit containing continuous medications (for conditions like diabetes or hypertension), painkillers, anti-inflammatories, and anti-diarrheal medicines, as well as bandages and FFP3 masks. Individuals requiring refrigerated medication, such as insulin, are advised to have a contingency plan for long-term power failures.
Additionally, the guide recommends that every household member, including children, should have their own individual evacuation backpack. These packs should be tailored to the person's age and physical ability and should contain essentials like documents, water, medication, and clothing to allow for rapid departure during an emergency.
