Poland issues over 280 indictments for bias-motivated crimes

Poland's Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General, Waldemar Żurek, announced that over 280 indictments have been sent to courts following the training of more than 100 prosecutors. This initiative is part of a specialized effort to combat bias-motivated crimes, including violence, threats, and public incitement based on nationality, religion, or origin.

To support this, a regulation issued in February 2026 designated 50 prosecutorial units to handle these cases. This includes 49 district prosecutor's offices and the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw for the most complex or serious matters. The ministry stated that these specialized units aim to ensure that reports of hate speech and violence are processed more efficiently and reach court rather than being dismissed.
