Poland keeps embargo on Ukrainian rapeseed amid farmer protests

Poland's Ministry of Agriculture, led by Minister Stefan Krajewski, confirmed that the embargo on Ukrainian rapeseed will remain in force. Krajewski stated that the restriction can be lifted only after Polish growers have sold their own harvest and with the explicit consent of domestic farmers, saying, “Nie zdejmiemy embarga bez zgody polskich rolników.”

The farmers’ union Samoobrona warned that removing the ban could repeat the market disruption seen in 2022 when large volumes of Ukrainian grain flooded Poland. Its deputy chairman Marcin Wroński called the potential EU infringement procedure “a threat that cannot be taken lightly.”

Alongside the firm stance on grain imports, the government outlined new support measures: a 1,000 zł subsidy per livestock animal, additional aid for fertilizer purchases, and an increased fuel‑tax rebate for farms. It also announced forthcoming legislation to ease investment in rural areas.
