Poland launches investigation into Facebook Poland over GDPR concerns
The Polish Personal Data Protection Office (UODO) has launched an administrative proceeding against Facebook Poland, a subsidiary of Meta, following a complaint by InPost CEO Rafał Brzoska. The investigation concerns fraudulent advertisements that use personal images and data, which Brzoska argues violates GDPR regulations.
In addition to the local proceeding, UODO has taken international steps by requesting a draft decision from the Irish Data Protection Commission regarding an ongoing case involving Meta that began in July 2024. Furthermore, a request has been submitted to the European Commission to initiate systemic actions against deepfake-related scams.
Brzoska has criticized Meta's handling of disinformation, asserting that platforms profiting from advertising must be held responsible for the content they host. He has introduced a tool called ScamWatch to combat these fraudulent practices and has vowed to continue legal efforts to stop scammers from using Meta's platforms to target Polish citizens.
