Poland launches special one‑time social benefit to ease rent and poverty pressures

Polish households face rising rent costs that often exceed income, with many renters unable to meet basic expenses and some municipalities refusing the legally‑mandated housing allowance. To address acute hardship, the government’s social‑assistance system offers a special one‑time benefit of up to 3,292 zł, payable even when a family’s earnings surpass the usual 1,010 zł (single) or 823 zł per person thresholds. Applicants submit a request to their local social‑welfare centre, which evaluates need through a personal interview. The payment can be used for food, medicines, heating, clothing, urgent medical expenses, or other extraordinary costs.

The measure targets families and individuals in dire situations, aiming to prevent rent arrears, debt cycles and possible evictions that affect an estimated 17 million people living below the social minimum in Poland.
