Poland launches subsidies for household sewage treatment systems

The Polish government is offering financial assistance to residents who lack connection to a public sewage network. Under the "Mikroretencja" programme, owners of single‑family homes can receive grants covering up to 70% of the investment cost for a domestic sewage treatment plant or a septic tank, with a maximum subsidy of 11,000 zł. Typical construction costs range from 15,000–25,000 zł for a treatment plant and 6,000–12,000 zł for a concrete or plastic tank, while annual operating expenses vary between 400–800 zł for the plant and 3,000–6,000 zł for a tank. Eligibility depends on municipal participation; many gminas publish local grant calls and may also fund the conversion of existing septic tanks into treatment units. Applicants must meet programme conditions and submit a formal request to their local authority.
