Poland launches testing for European Digital Identity Wallet

Poland has launched a testing environment, or sandbox, for the European Digital Identity Wallet (EPTC). This initiative, developed by the Ministry of Digital Affairs and the Centralny Ośrodek Informatyki, allows businesses and institutions to test the integration of their services with the new digital identity system before its full production rollout.

The EPTC is designed to allow users to present digital credentials, such as driver's licenses, diplomas, or professional qualifications, without needing physical documents. The system is intended for use in both public and commercial sectors, including finance, insurance, telecommunications, transport, healthcare, and retail.

In accordance with the EU's eIDAS 2.0 regulation, all EU member states are expected to make their version of the digital wallet available by the end of 2026. In Poland, the solution is being integrated into the existing mObywatel ecosystem. The wallet will enable users to perform tasks such as opening bank accounts online, filling out official forms, and signing electronic contracts securely.
