Poland fuel prices decrease under government program

The Polish Ministry of Energy has announced new maximum retail fuel prices as part of the third phase of the ‘Ceny Paliwa Niżej’ (Lower Fuel Prices) program. Effective October 23, 2026, maximum prices for gasoline 95 (Pb95) dropped to 6.56 PLN per liter, gasoline 98 (Pb98) to 7.28 PLN, and diesel (ON) to 7.99 PLN.

The program, which is scheduled to run until the end of 2026, utilizes a combination of reduced VAT (from 23% to 8%) and lower excise duties. These measures are funded by a new levy on fuel companies that achieve extraordinary profits. Failure to comply with these maximum price limits can result in fines of up to 1 million PLN.

While gasoline prices have seen significant decreases compared to previous weeks, market analysts note that diesel prices remain relatively high due to seasonal demand and the fact that Poland imports approximately 35-37% of its diesel. Additionally, Orlen recently raised wholesale diesel prices by 17 groszy, which may impact future retail limits.
