Poland implements fuel price caps under CPN program
The Polish government has activated the third phase of the ‘Ceny Paliwa Niżej’ (CPN) program, which establishes maximum retail prices for gasoline and diesel at service stations across the country. The program, which is scheduled to remain in effect until the end of 2026, utilizes temporary reductions in VAT (from 23% to 8%) and excise duties to mitigate rising costs for consumers.
Recent updates from the Ministry of Energy show fluctuating limits. For October 21, maximum prices were set at 6.70 PLN for 95-octane gasoline, 7.43 PLN for 98-octane, and 7.98 PLN for diesel. By October 22, gasoline limits were adjusted downward to 6.63 PLN for 95-octane and 7.37 PLN for 98-octane, while the diesel cap rose to 8.02 PLN.
The program is financed through a windfall tax on fuel companies that achieve excessive profits. While the government has implemented these measures to protect household budgets, officials have confirmed that the current package does not include autogas (LPG). Failure to comply with the established maximum price limits can result in administrative fines of up to 1 million PLN.
