Poland manages flood recovery and agricultural drought relief disputes

Two years after the devastating floods in Poland, reconstruction efforts continue in Lower Silesia. The government has allocated 11.2 billion PLN for aid and recovery across various support instruments. In the Lower Silesian region specifically, 765.2 million PLN has been designated from the state budget reserve and the EU Solidarity Fund for infrastructure reconstruction through 2026. Key completed projects include the reconstruction of a bridge in Kłodzko and the revitalization of a sports field in Stronie Śląskie. Future plans involve building a new dam in Stronie Śląskie and a multi-functional reservoir in Kamieniec Ząbkowicki.

Separately, the agricultural sector is criticizing a proposed government drought relief program. The Wielkopolska Chamber of Agriculture (WIR) argues that the proposed subsidies—up to 1,000 PLN per hectare for soft fruits and 300 PLN per hectare for vegetables—are insufficient. The WIR claims the program covers too few farms and criticizes the reliance on IUNG-PIB data for assessing losses, stating that the current system for estimating drought damage is flawed and fails to account for the true extent of the impact on crops.
